Skin Milk: Bec Adam’s Small List Of Essentials

Bec Adams is a very busy lady. Thankfully she’s mastered the ins and outs of her beauty routine and has narrowed the solider-at-arms down to only a select and necessary few. You know, so she can focus on the more important things at hand like practicing law by day and deejaying at guest-list-only parties all over the City through the night. We were curious to find out Bec’s secrets and asked her to spill the milk on everything skincare and makeup, which she did, along with the importance of her wellness and fitness practices, and how she approaches mental health. Read all about it, below. And, can we all just take a moment to appreciate those beautiful brows? Some of us over-pluckers of days past are running out to stock up on RevitaBrow stat.

Tell us a bit about your morning routine.  “I refuse to set an alarm unless I have to catch a flight or something along those lines, as my body naturally wakes everyday around 8:30 a.m. Without second thought, I jump into the shower and cleanse my face. I then add my Aesop moisturizer and Damascan Rose oil whilst drinking a half a liter of water. Then, I will work out what my day involves. If I have a meeting, I will try to think about my outfit, and add maybe (MAYBE) some tinted YSL moisturizer to any blemishes on my face and some blush. If I am working by myself or my business partner, I will just put on my jeans, loafers, and a t-shirt, and walk to my local coffee shop to start my day of emails and work.”

What does your skincare routine look like?  “I’ve always believed in nourishing your skin from the inside out. I am really rigorous with drinking a lot of water (more than four liters a day). In a day, I consume many vegetables, healthy fats, and antioxidants, and douse my food in turmeric or cinnamon. I only eat organic (unless I am being naughty, which is becoming less and less these days). I also take supplements such as collagen, vitamin C, probiotics, and ashwagandha to ensure my digestive system is happy, so that no toxins appear on my skin as blemishes.”

What about your makeup?  “I refuse to wear any during the day, as I enjoy the feeling of being extra special when going out in the evening to a dinner or treat of some sort. I keep it very basic, even in those situations. I dab YSL tinted moisturizer on my red spots, color in my eyebrows a bit more, put on some blush and some mascara. Seven times out of 10, I will then look for five minutes for my red or pink lipstick, and five times out of 10 find it, and add it to complete my look.”

Let’s talk about hair care.  “I wish I had nicer, thicker hair! But I have very thin, brittle hair. Because of that, I try to only wash it twice a week. The times I do wash it are when I want to look nice for something. Then after a day, it gets tied back into a low bun until it is time to wash it again for the next special occasion.”

How about your beauty from the inside/wellness habits?  “I answered that above a little, but I am a vegetarian and have been forever. My father is one, and he taught me at an early age about the greater empathy you can feel for the world when you do not consume animal products. For fitness, I am an avid runner. I run five to six times a week. I do this as a form of meditation to destress from my day, and come up with creative ideas for Les Filles. It also in turn evokes a positive self-body image. For my mental health, I try to not take things seriously or allow myself to be put in situations that cause me stress. My dad specializes in educational psychology and philosophy as a part of his field of work, and taught me to find humor in things. The more I laugh, the happier I feel, and the less stressed I am towards anything in my life causing me anxiety. My dad is turning 65, but he truly only looks 50. I feel it keeps you young! It’s a win-win.”

Tell us about your nightly routine.  “At night, if I stay in, I will always drink a tincture of chamomile, dandelion, and peppermint tea. I have a candle lit, a book in my hands, and some peaceful music on (right now as I am answering this, I’m wearing an Aliangé face mask, listening to Labi Siffre). I will cleanse my face with my Aesop products, then lather my face with rose hip oil, Aesop Damascan rose oil, chamomile moisturizer, and add a thick layer of Aliangé eye cream. I take 5 HTP and magnesium supplements right before I am ready to go to sleep as a sign to my brain that it is dream time!”

Biggest beauty secret/advice?  “Drink water and nourish your body with organic food and supplements. You are what you eat! And don’t forget to laugh and listen to music whilst doing it.”
