You can tell a lot about a person by the music they listen to. Like a two-way mirror into the most intimate corners of the mind, to curate a playlist is to make a public declaration — whether you believe this to be true or not — with incognito meaning nestled behind each track. Was it a broken heart that only a delicate array of “fuck you” anthems could soothe? Maybe something more light-hearted, like the need for an ideal in-flight soundtrack. Whatever the case — and there are many — give someone access to your Spotify account (or Apple Music, we don’t discriminate), and you’ve just handed over a roadmap to your soul. We’re asking some of the inspirational ladies we interview to dish: what’s been (literal) music to your ears? Who and what do we need to be listening to?
Queued up this week is a dance-inspired playlist by model, Nneka Ibeabuchi (be sure to read her full Off Duty interview here) who says “Music is my peace of mind and a part of my everyday life, at home or on the go. It’s so tranquilizing.” The afro-pop bass lines and upbeat tempo of tracks from artists like Kizz Daniel and Falz, paired with some familiar queens we all know and love like Cardi and Bey, will have you bopping and twirling around your kitchen for hours. Enjoy.
