You’re sitting down at the coffee shop a few blocks from home, computer open on the table before you, iced latte in one hand, phone in the other. Thumb scrolling frivolously as you procrastinate getting started on whatever it is you are there to do because of the free WiFi and caffeine on tap; when in walks a well-dressed woman who appears to be in a hurry. She must be late for work, you think as you look back down at your phone without another thought. Suddenly you feel a gentle gust of wind as she walks by in her haste to place her order at the counter, and you’re left blanketed in a cloud of the most heavenly smell that she carries with her around town. You want to get up to ask her what it is, but you don’t because you’re a little shy and also a little lazy. You make an agreement with yourself that when she walks back to make her exit, while holding on to her freshly brewed Americano, you’ll ask her what she’s wearing. But when she does, she’s on what appears to be a serious phone call, still in a hurry, and out the door she walks with the answer to your very important question and a mystery that will haunt you for days, weeks, months.
You’ve been there. We’ve all been there. The circumstances may be a little bit different, but every single one of us has missed the boat on asking what’s that incredible smell? at least once in life. So, we’re asking ahead of time. What’s your signature scent? And if you have an interesting or funny story of how it became “the one”, please, do tell.

October 26, 2019 at 4:56 amI’ve worn Elizabeth & James’ Nirvana in both black and white every day for years. I love how the musky scent of the black and the floral of the white compliment each other on my skin. I spray them each in different areas of my décolleté and my forearms. I may never wear another scent again to be honest, it truly is my signature scent!

October 24, 2019 at 12:24 pmBibliotheque by Byredo. I ordered one of their discovery kits to get to know their scents, and kept coming back to this one. I love this scent but I am always hunting for a scent with a pop of Bergamot.

It reminds me of my grandma even if I don’t know why and it makes me feel an aristocratic lady. Pretty weird, but oh, what a perfume..

October 26, 2019 at 12:02 pmDiptyque eau de lierre. I get asked what it is almost every time I’m out. So good. I’ve been wearing it for about 5yrs now (I’m 25). Found it after bopping into a Diptyque store with my sister in NYC. They gave us so many free samples and this was the one that stuck 🙂

October 28, 2019 at 9:19 amThe original Chloé perfume always! It was my first fragrance when I was 15, and I’ve been wearing it ever since. I love how powdery and light it is – floral but not overwhelmingly so, and the rose is lifted by the peony and freesia. The amber and cedar wood also give it a beautiful depth. I have an obsession with perfumes and the layering of notes, but I always tend to stick to the same one even when I smell other ones I love! It is a comfort thing for me. Signature scents have a certain intimacy that is unmatched 🙂

November 5, 2019 at 11:22 amLe Labo’s Ambrette 9 or Byredo’s Bal d’Afrique. Two different moods. I also always get complimented if I wear Maison Louis Marie’s Bois de Balincourt, but it’s so similar to Santal 33 (and a lot of people wear that) so I don’t wear it as much. I’ve been thinking about buying an Aesop fragrance, too
